A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING COURTNEY BROWN, SOUTH CAROLINA'S NATIVE SON, ON BECOMING THE NUMBER ONE DRAFT CHOICE OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE (NFL), AND EXTENDING HIM BEST WISHES FOR GREAT SUCCESS AND A LONG CAREER IN THE NFL.

Whereas, Courtney Brown, a native South Carolinian and a stellar football player for Penn State, has become the number one draft choice of the National Football League (NFL) for the year 2000, and was the number one pick in the NFL Draft 2000 for the Cleveland Browns; and

Whereas, Courtney Brown has had many accomplishments, including the following: in 1994, he was named to the Macedonia Basketball Championship All-USA Today Team; in 1995, he received the Top Prospect Award; in 1995, he received the Academic and Citizenship Award; in 1995, he received All Region High School Basketball and Football awards; in 1995, he was named Gatorade Player of the Year; in 1996-97, he received the Freshman Academic Achievement Award; in 1997-98, he was chosen for the GTE Academic All American District Team; in 1997-98, he won the Big Ten Scholar Athlete Award; he was named Most Valuable Player for the Outback Bowl of January 1, 1999; he received Penn State game balls against Wisconsin and Purdue; and he won the Hall Foundation Award for "Outstanding Senior Football Player" at Penn State; and

Whereas, all South Carolinians are proud of Courtney Brown's achievements and are ecstatic about his becoming the number one draft choice of the NFL for the year 2000. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Courtney Brown, South Carolina's native son, on becoming the number one draft choice of the NFL and extends to him best wishes for great success and a long career in the NFL.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Courtney Brown.
