A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. DON B. STILL OF BARNWELL COUNTY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, AND WISHING HIM HAPPINESS AND GOOD HEALTH IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS AS HE RETIRES AS DIRECTOR OF THE BARNWELL COUNTY VOCATIONAL CENTER.

Whereas, Don B. Still has been employed with the State of South Carolina for forty-eight years unselfishly working to assure that high school students receive opportunities to excel in the area of vocational education; and

Whereas, Don B. Still has served as Director of the Barnwell County Vocational Center since its establishment in 1969, and was responsible for putting into reality the dream for a strong occupational training program in Barnwell County, a dream shared by many local citizens; and

Whereas, his leadership and direction have led the Barnwell County Vocational Center to grow from five first-year courses to ten two-year programs which have state-of-the-art equipment; and

Whereas, Mr. Still has worked closely and cooperatively with business and industry in providing training skills necessary in Barnwell County and throughout the State to meet the changing demands of employment and essential workforce; and

Whereas, he was instrumental to the Barnwell County Vocational Center becoming a charter member of the National Technical Honor Society and in the Center maintaining accreditation in the prestigious Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and

Whereas, Mr. Still has actively endorsed the establishment of student organizations at the Barnwell County Vocational Center and encouraged student participation in state and national competitions; thus, vocational students have successfully competed and been honorably recognized in district, state, national, and international events; and

Whereas, he was a pioneer in the School-to-Work concept by establishing the cooperative education initiative at the Barnwell County Vocational Center; and

Whereas, Mr. Still has aggressively promoted the establishment of vocational scholarship funds to provide opportunities for deserving students to further their education beyond the vocational center, and has been an outstanding ambassador for vocational education through his active participation in local, state, and national professional and community organizations; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may honor so distinguished a South Carolinian as he begins a well-earned retirement and wish him well. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation to Mr. Don B. Still of Barnwell County for his distinguished professional career in vocational education which has for forty-eight years immeasurably benefitted Barnwell County and the State of South Carolina and for his unsurpassed dedication and loyalty in promoting vocational education, and wish him many years of happiness and good health on the occasion of his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Don B. Still.
