A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-29-65 SO AS TO DECLARE THE MONTH OF OCTOBER EACH YEAR AS EUROPEAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE SEVERAL SCHOOLS OF THIS STATE AS A PART OF THEIR REGULAR CURRICULUM DURING THIS MONTH SHALL EXAMINE THE INGENUITY, CREATIVITY, CULTURAL, AND POLITICAL EXPERIENCES OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS FROM EUROPE AND OF EUROPEAN DESCENT AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CULTURAL, POLITICAL, AND ECONOMIC INSTITUTIONS OF THE UNITED STATES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-29-65. The month of October each year is declared to be European-American History Month and the several schools of this State in conformity with guidelines developed by the State Department of Education and as a part of their regular curriculum during this month shall examine the ingenuity, creativity, cultural, and political experiences of those individuals from Europe and of European descent and their contributions to establishment and development of the cultural, political, and economic institutions of the United States."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
