A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR MARY R. "MICKEY" MILLER, DIRECTOR OF THE CHARLESTON COUNTY BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION, ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF LOYAL SERVICE AND TO RECOGNIZE HER DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO CHARLESTON COUNTY.

Whereas, Mary R. "Mickey" Miller began serving the State of South Carolina at the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration in 1978, first as Clerk, then Administrative Specialist, and since 1982, as Director; and

Whereas, Mickey Miller, born to Marie and Elmore Rourk of Charleston County on March 30, 1934, attended Chicora Elementary and Chicora High School before marrying Bruce Miller, a Marine veteran from North Carolina, in 1957; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller has provided love, constant support, and inspiration to her three children: Cynthia, Robert, and Ronald; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller is the proud grandmother to six adorable grandchildren: Jeremy, Joshua, Matthew, Rebecca, Summer, and Skyler; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller's strong faith and loyalty has led her to serve tirelessly in many capacities at the Cherokee Place United Methodist Church including Administrative Council Chairperson, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, and Chairperson for the Day Care/Preschool Board of Directors; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller, presented the Outstanding Registration/Election Official Award of 2000, has been a leader in her field, serving with dedication and commitment on the Election Law Study Committee, as a Gubernatorial appointee and in offices in the South Carolina Association of Registration and Election Officials of which she now serves as the Legislative Committee Chairperson; and

Whereas, Mickey Miller, is a Lifetime Member of the South Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers, and is a past President of the Goodwin Elementary School Booster Club and of the Garrett High School P.T.S.A.; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller has also served her community in many areas including the North Charleston Public Service District, the South Carolina Rehabilitation Center Advisory Board, the Executive Committee of the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Council of Government, and the Legislative Committee of the South Carolina Association of Counties:

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this Resolution, congratulate and honor Mary R. "Mickey" Miller on the occasion of her retirement and recognize her dedication and commitment to her family, her community, and Charleston County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Mary R. "Mickey" Miller.
