A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING DR. LINDA ELDRIDGE OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR BEING NAMED OUTSTANDING SUPERINTENDENT BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION AND EXTENDING THEIR SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR ALL HER MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Dr. Linda Eldridge was named the Outstanding Superintendent by the South Carolina School Boards Association at the association's 2000 annual convention; and

Whereas, Dr. Eldridge has had a distinguished career in school administration, coming to Aiken County in 1995 with a solid background and a superb reputation after serving as an administrator in Florida since 1988; and

Whereas, as superintendent of the sixth largest school district in the State, she is charged with overseeing more than twenty-five thousand students, two thousand seven hundred employees, and a budget in excess of one hundred forty-seven million dollars; and

Whereas, through Dr. Eldridge's vision, leadership, and guidance Aiken County has made tremendous strides in all aspects of the educational system; and

Whereas, during her tenure, test scores have risen above the state and national averages, student-teacher ratios have been reduced, dropout rates have decreased, and technology has been moved to the forefront; and

Whereas, having come up through the ranks from the classroom to administration, Dr. Eldridge has a keen understanding and heightened awareness of all facets of the educational process creating a foundation of mutual respect and unified purpose with her staff at all levels; and

Whereas, she is a passionate mentor and motivational leader who contributes endless time and energy to the betterment of education and to the advancement of Aiken County; and

Whereas, her involvement with and responsiveness to the business and community leaders has helped forge an extraordinary partnership between the district and the Aiken community, greatly enhancing public opinion and community support of public education, while providing the county and State with well-educated, productive, technologically capable students; and

Whereas, Dr. Eldridge is greatly admired and respected not only among educators, administrators, and the business community in Aiken, but also across the State where she is well known and personally involved with many issues and activities dealing with children and education; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Dr. Linda Eldridge for her many accomplishments to the Aiken County School District and contributions to the children and future of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Linda Eldridge of Aiken County for being named outstanding superintendent by the South Carolina School Boards Association and extend their sincere appreciation for all her many contributions to education in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Linda Eldridge of Aiken County.
