A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. WELDON WYATT OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR RECEIVING THE "CHAMPION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION" AWARD FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION AND TO EXPRESS SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS IN SUPPORT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mr. Weldon Wyatt received the "Champion for Public Education" Award from the South Carolina School Boards Association at its 2000 Annual Convention; and

Whereas, Mr. Wyatt, a native of Pacolet who moved to Aiken as a teenager, is a loving husband and devoted father of two daughters and one son; and

Whereas, an avid supporter and vocal advocate for public education, Mr. Wyatt's contributions to Aiken County Schools and public education throughout the southeast are extensive; and

Whereas, he was instrumental in helping the district achieve full fiscal autonomy; he has worked with community, government, and education leaders to help the district achieve its goals; and by his example and leadership he has helped mobilize the community creating a groundswell of local support for public education; and

Whereas, Mr. Wyatt, a self-made man, is President of Wyatt Development Co., Inc., and has generously shared his success and resources by, among other things, making substantial donations to facility additions, establishing a college scholarship, and spearheading the fundraising for an endowment to provide financial assistance to college-bound high school students; and

Whereas, he is a well-respected businessman and entrepreneur, recognized across the southeast for his leadership and advocacy, inspiring businesses and communities throughout the region to support public education; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize this outstanding native son, Mr. Weldon Wyatt, for whom the Senate and the State of South Carolina is most proud and appreciative. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Weldon Wyatt of Aiken County for receiving the "Champion for Public Education" Award from the South Carolina School Boards Association and express the sincere appreciation for his many contributions in support of public education in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Weldon Wyatt of Aiken County.
