A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. WALTER GAMEWELL "CURLY" WATSON FOR HIS LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Dr. Walter Gamewell Watson affectionately know as "Curly" was born in Trenton, South Carolina on February 25, 1910; and

Whereas, he was a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia in 1943 and has had the distinction of dedicating his lifetime of practice to a single institution; and

Whereas, in 1947 he began his practice of obstetrics and gynecology at University Hospital in Augusta and has remained on staff continuously, chairing the hospital's OB/GYN department for most of his illustrious career; and

Whereas, though having turned ninety earlier this year, Dr. Watson keeps a full schedule, performs surgery, and continues practicing medicine daily; and

Whereas, he has touched thousands of lives throughout his medical career, including the mothers of more than 15,000 babies he has delivered at University Hospital, among them our distinguished colleague Senator James Bryan; and

Whereas, Dr. Watson has also been the beloved and admired mentor and positive role model for generations of students and the admired and respected colleague of countless physicians, nurses, and other professionals; and

Whereas, in recognition of his exemplary professionalism and contributions to medicine, his selfless service to other, and the compassion, and kindness he extends to all in his care, the University Hospital honored him by naming its center for women as the W. G. Watson, M.D., Women's Center; and

Whereas, his love of life, boundless energy, and uncommonly strong work ethic, are part of his legacy and gift to all who know him, a legacy that still grows as he continues in his practice; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have great admiration for Dr. Watson, his character, humility, the wisdom he shares with all who make his acquaintance, and the example he sets for all of us to follow. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Walter Gamewell "Curly" Watson for his lifetime of service to the medical profession and to the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. W. G. Watson, M. D.
