A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE FOR THE SERVICE OF BELOVED SENATE CHAPLAIN, THE REVEREND DR. GEORGE E. MEETZE, AND CONGRATULATING HIM BEING AWARDED THE ORDER OF THE PALMETTO.

Whereas, the members of the Senate note that at the end of the 2000 Session of the General Assembly, their beloved chaplain, the Reverend Dr. George E. Meetze, will have completed more than fifty years of service as Senate Chaplain; and

Whereas, in that long career of service to the Senate, Dr. Meetze has brought spiritual care and comfort to members and staff in matters great and small, for the needs that arise in the daily grind of legislative business and politics and in those life-wrenching events that, without his calm message and guidance, those in his care wonder how they will be able to cope; and

Whereas, the resolute faith of Dr. Meetze lights his countenance, guides him in his duties, makes him a tower of strength, and by example, instructs all in his presence in the need for a strong and secure spiritual life as a necessary accompaniment to a successful life in public service; and

Whereas, in a life and career crowded with accomplishments and honors too numerous to mention, Dr. Meetze has retained the pastoral touch that is a rare gift, a gift he has shared without stinting with his congregation and with the odd parish that is the Senate; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned that Dr. Meetze is to become a laureate of the Order of the Palmetto, an award bestowed by the Governor that is the highest honor within the gift of a grateful State to one of its citizens; and

Whereas, the Order of the Palmetto, bestowed only on those who have served this State with rare distinction, is in this case and to the certain knowledge of the members of the Senate, more than deserved, and by this resolution, the members of the Senate add their voices to the chorus of congratulations for their beloved chaplain. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate express their appreciation for the service of their beloved Senate Chaplain, the Reverend Dr. George E. Meetze, and congratulate him being awarded the Order of the Palmetto.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Reverend Dr. George E. Meetze.
