A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO JOIN THE CITIZENS OF OCONEE COUNTY AS THEY KICK OFF A THREE-YEAR-LONG TRIBUTE TO THE ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED KOREAN ERA VETERANS OF THE COUNTY WITH THE DEDICATION OF A FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE FLAG CELEBRATING THEIR MANY BRAVE AND SELFLESS ROLES IN THE DEFENSE OF FREEDOM FROM JUNE 25, 1950, TO JULY 27, 1953.

Whereas, Oconee County citizens will initiate a tribute to the Korean Era Veterans residing in the county with a June 25, 2000, dedication of a fiftieth anniversary commemorative flag at the County Administrative Office Complex in Walhalla; and

Whereas, the three-year-long series of events at various county sites will culminate on July 27, 2003, tracking the dates of the Korean War fifty years ago; and

Whereas, the Korean War Commemorative Committee was appointed by the Oconee Veterans' Council to develop an appropriate celebration of the one thousand five hundred brave and selfless Oconee County residents who served on active duty to defend the liberty of their South Carolina neighbors, their fellow countrymen and countrywomen, and their brothers and sisters around the world; and

Whereas, this recognition of their faithfulness to and sacrifice for freedom is only fitting now, fifty years later, as the focus of time more clearly illuminates the need for their answer to the call for courage and the devastating consequences had they failed to answer that call. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly join the citizens of Oconee County as they kick off a three-year-long tribute to the one thousand five hundred Korean Era Veterans of the county with the dedication of a fiftieth anniversary commemorative flag celebrating their many brave and selfless roles in the defense of freedom from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the County of Oconee on behalf of the Korean Era Veterans at dedication ceremonies on June 25, 2000.
