A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATION THE MARCHING BAND OF WACCAMAW HIGH SCHOOL OF PAWLEYS ISLAND ON WINNING THE 1998 STATE CLASS A MARCHING BAND COMPETITION AND SALUTING THESE OUTSTANDING YOUNG WOMEN AND MEN AS "STATE CHAMPIONS".

Whereas, the marching band of Waccamaw High School of Pawleys Island captured the State Class A Marching Band Championship on October 31, 1998; and

Whereas, The Warriors defeated nine other high schools at the state finals, held at Newberry High School, for the Class A crown; and

Whereas, this title was the second state championship for Waccamaw High in four years and was a first for band director Melanie Wright; and

Whereas, the Warriors' Halloween theme, "Dying To Be A Ghost", proved to be not only outstanding but also the best in the competition held on Halloween; and

Whereas, the dedication, hard work, talent, and unity of the members of the Waccamaw High band are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the marching band of Waccamaw High School of Pawleys Island on winning the 1998 State Class A Marching Band Competition and salutes these outstanding young women and men as "State Champions".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Waccamaw High School marching band, in care of Melanie Wright, band director.
