A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE OF THE LATE ROBERT LEE WEBB, NATIVE OF PENDLETON, SOUTH CAROLINA, IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY, BEGINNING WITH HIS ASSIGNMENT TO THE 307TH CHEMICAL SMOKE GENERATOR COMPANY IN GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, THE ONLY REMAINING ALL-BLACK RESERVE UNIT IN THE NATION.

Whereas, the late Robert Lee Webb was a native of Pendleton, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Webb died shortly after he retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army after twenty years of service to his country; and

Whereas, that honorable service began after basic training at Fort Jackson with Mr. Webb's assignment to the 307th Chemical Smoke Generator Company in Greenville, South Carolina; and

Whereas, that all-black Army reserve unit remains operational today, but is now the only all-black reserve unit still existing in the nation; and

Whereas, that unit was the doorway for many of this state's Negro citizens into distinguished and courageous careers of military service; and

Whereas, we wish to express to those soldiers our appreciation for their outstanding service to this State and nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives do hereby gratefully recognize the twenty years of service of the late Robert Lee Webb, native of Pendleton, South Carolina, in the United States Army, beginning with his assignment to the 307th Chemical Smoke Generator Company in Greenville, South Carolina, the only remaining all-black reserve unit in the nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ethel Webb, the mother of Robert Lee Webb.
