A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE REVEREND EDDIE DEAS III, OF ORANGEBURG, AS HE LEAVES ST. LUKE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA) IN ORANGEBURG TO ASSUME A NEW PASTORATE AT THE COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, AND TO THANK HIM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ORANGEBURG COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives note that the Reverend Eddie Deas III, pastor of St. Luke Presbyterian Church (USA) in Orangeburg, is leaving Orangeburg to assume a new pastorate at Community Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, Virginia; and

Whereas, the Reverend Deas, in his ten years in Orangeburg at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, has been an outstanding spiritual and community leader, tirelessly leading his flock and working on the outreach of the church with a church Bible study program for men and women, and as one of the founders of Presbyterians Concerned about African-American Youth (PCAAY), an organization created to nurture young Christian men and women through providing wholesome activities, culminating with annual statewide weekend youth retreat; and

Whereas, he has made himself an integral part of the Orangeburg and Tri-County areas through his service on the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, on the Orangeburg-Calhoun Hospice Health Advisory Board, on the Orangeburg County Council on Aging, as the Education Subcommittee chair of the Orangeburg County Peoples' Assault on Drugs Committee, and as a chaplain at South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, since his ordination in 1984 following his honors undergraduate career at Morris College, his graduate studies at Ohio State University, and his theology degree earned with honors at The Interdenominational Theological Center at Johnson C. Smith Seminary in Atlanta, Reverend Deas has served his denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA), with distinction, in his pastorates, and in the myriad of denominational duties that fall on such outstanding men; and

Whereas, it is with mixed feelings, sadness at his leaving but appreciation and joy in his accomplishments, that the members of the House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to express their best wishes to Reverend Eddie Deas III. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express best wishes to the Reverend Eddie Deas III, of Orangeburg, as he leaves St. Luke Presbyterian Church (USA) in Orangeburg to assume a new pastorate at the Community Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth, Virginia, and thank him for his outstanding contributions to the Orangeburg community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Eddie Deas III.
