A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-11-2405 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO IMPORT, BUY, OR SELL THE PELT OR AN ITEM MADE FROM THE PELT OF A DOMESTICATED OR FERAL CAT OR DOG, AND TO PROVIDE A PENALTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 50-11-2405. It is unlawful to import, buy, or sell the pelt or an item made from the pelt of a domesticated or feral cat or dog. A person who violates this provision is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction must be imprisoned not more than three years."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
