A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-11-197 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EMPLOYER-PAID REIMBURSEMENTS OF MILEAGE EXPENSES INCURRED IN THE COURSE OF OFFICIAL BUSINESS BY STATE OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES MUST BE AT A PER MILE RATE THAT DOES NOT EXCEED THE STANDARD BUSINESS MILEAGE RATE ESTABLISHED BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE AS THAT RATE IS PERIODICALLY ADJUSTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 11, Title 8 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 8-11-197. Employer-paid reimbursements paid to a state officer or employee for mileage expenses incurred in the performance of official duties must be paid at a per mile rate that does not exceed the standard business mileage rate established by the Internal Revenue Service as that rate is periodically adjusted by the Internal Revenue Service."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
