EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DEATH OF MRS. WILLIE RICHARDSON OF PENDLETON, THE LAST OF THE ORIGINAL NEGRO FAMILY SETTLERS OF THAT HISTORIC TOWN.
Whereas, Mrs. Willie Richardson of Pendleton died Sunday, January 10, 1999; and
Whereas, she was the last surviving family member of the original Negro settlers of historic Pendleton; and
Whereas, the Town of Pendleton, the home of the First Farmers' Hall in America, is proud of the contributions of all its founders to the diversity of its culture and the richness of its history; and
Whereas, the State of South Carolina also recognizes the vital roles of its black population in creating and nourishing the proud tradition and present successes of this great State; and
Whereas, Mrs. Richardson was a wonderful lady who was greatly beloved in her community; she touched the lives of everyone who knew her, enriched her family and her community, and will be deeply missed by the citizens of Pendleton and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives do hereby express their deepest sorrow at the death of Mrs. Willie Richardson.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to her daughter, Mrs. Helen Keese of Pendleton, South Carolina.
