A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. CATHY B. NOVINGER, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION, GOVERNMENTAL AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS FOR SCANA CORPORATION, FOR HER NEARLY THIRTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE SCANA CORPORATION AND HER HUMANITARIAN SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mrs. Cathy B. Novinger is a native of Portsmouth, Ohio; and

Whereas, she began her career at SCANA Corporation in 1970 and has worked in numerous areas throughout SCANA; and

Whereas, SCANA Corporation is a five billion dollar energy-based holding company headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina, with subsidiaries offering electric, natural gas, and telecommunications services; and

Whereas, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company, one of SCANA's principal subsidiaries, is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to nearly five hundred thousand retail and wholesale customers and in the purchase and sale of natural gas to approximately two hundred fifty thousand retail customers in central and southern South Carolina; and

Whereas, during her service with SCANA, Mrs. Novinger rose from file clerk to Senior Vice President for Administration, Governmental and Public Affairs for SCANA; and

Whereas, in addition to her service as a senior policy maker for SCANA, Mrs. Novinger has been committed to the service of her fellow man through her service on numerous boards and commissions that include the River Alliance Board, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Board, the South Carolina Business Advisory Council to the South Carolina Council of College and University Presidents, the First Union Advisory Board, the Palmetto Baptist Medical Center Foundation Board, and chairperson of the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Novinger attended the University of South Carolina, and is a graduate of Portsmouth Business College and the Edison Electric Institute's Electric Utility Executive Management Program; and

Whereas, many honors have been bestowed upon her which include the South Carolina Historical Foundation Society Businesswoman of the Year award, the South Carolina Schools Public Relations Association Outstanding Leader in Education award, and the South Carolina Business and Professional Women's Career Woman of the Year award; and

Whereas, she is the devoted wife of Mr. Robert L. Novinger and together they are the proud parents of their son, Travis; and

Whereas, in January, 1999, Mrs. Novinger announced that she would retire from SCANA Corporation in May, 1999, after nearly thirty years of service to this great corporate citizen; and

Whereas, she has rendered SCANA Corporation and the State of South Carolina outstanding service as Senior Vice President for SCANA and is known, respected, and admired for her dedicated work and integrity; and we are delighted to have this opportunity to accord her special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution publicly congratulate and recognize Mrs. Cathy B. Novinger for her distinguished career with SCANA Corporation and her humanitarian efforts throughout South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Cathy B. Novinger.
