A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-112-35 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A DEPENDENT OF A PERSON WHO IS A RESIDENT OF ANOTHER STATE AND WHO HAS PAID SOUTH CAROLINA INCOME OR LOCAL PROPERTY TAXES FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR IN A TOTAL AMOUNT EXCEEDING TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS IS ENTITLED TO PAY IN-STATE TUITION RATES FOR THE SUCCEEDING YEAR AT STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-112-35. A dependent of a person who is a resident of another state and who has paid South Carolina income or local property taxes for the previous year in a total amount exceeding two thousand dollars is entitled to pay in-state tuition rates for the succeeding year at state institutions of higher learning as defined by this chapter."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
