A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING CLARENCE W. DICKERT, DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY SCHOOLS, ON HIS NOMINATION FOR THE "SOUTH CAROLINA RURAL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR" AWARD AND HIS APPOINTMENT TO THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, AND COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS PROFESSIONALISM AND HIS DEDICATION TO PUBLIC EDUCATION.

Whereas, Clarence W. Dickert, District Superintendent of Edgefield County Schools, has been nominated for the "South Carolina Rural Educator of the Year" award and has been appointed to the State Board of Education; and

Whereas, Mr. Dickert received his BS degree in secondary education in 1958 from Newberry College, his M. Ed. degree in administration in 1971 from Georgia Southern University, and his Ed. S. degree in 1975 also from Georgia Southern; and

Whereas, he has been District Superintendent of Edgefield County schools since 1987; and

Whereas, he has numerous professional affiliations and is active in many civic and community clubs and organizations; he reorganized the district office in Edgefield County two years ago because he saw a more efficient way to serve the needs of the schools; with this movement there came a more effective and efficient Parenting Program, Adult Education Program, and a revitalization of the Homework Centers; he also spearheaded the restructuring of the school day to give more time on task to older students, and he led the effort to reorganize the bus routes to accommodate the Child Development through fifth grade students; and

Whereas, he has devoted his time, talent, and energy to many projects which have benefited the students of his district and improved public education; he understands the needs of rural students and is always prepared to work tirelessly to accomplish his goals; and

Whereas, Clarence Dickert is an outstanding individual who is greatly deserving of the honors which have been bestowed upon him; and it gives us great pleasure to have the opportunity to recognize him in this special manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Clarence W. Dickert, District Superintendent of Edgefield County Schools, on his nomination for the "South Carolina Rural Educator of the Year" award and his appointment to the State Board of Education and commends him for his professionalism and his dedication to public education.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Dickert
