EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE SILVER SPIRIT MARCHING BAND OF SILVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL, IN AIKEN COUNTY, UPON WINNING THE CLASS 2AA STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN SUCCESSION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note with great pride the recent accomplishment of the Silver Spirit Marching Band of Silver Bluff High School on winning the Class 2AA State Marching Band Championship in 1998 and, again, in 1999 for the second year in succession; and
Whereas, the Silver Spirit Marching Band was awarded a superior rating of 93.65 out of a 100 point scale in the championship competition; and
Whereas, during his eight year tenure at Silver Bluff, Band Director Chuck Deen has led the Silver Spirit Marching Band to eight state championship competitions; and
Whereas, Director Chuck Deen and Assistants, Bonnie McNeill, Mary Lee Young, Jim McNeill, and all members of the marching band have brought honor to Silver Bluff High School through their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence, as well as for the many personal sacrifices they have made in furtherance of the Silver Spirit band program; and
Whereas, in recognition of its outstanding performance as a marching band over the recent years, the Silver Spirit Band has been selected to represent South Carolina and the southeastern states in the 73rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to be held November 25, 1999, in New York City; and
Whereas, the members of the Silver Spirit Marching Band and their parents are also to be highly commended for their dedication, hard work, and countless hours of practice and fundraising which made their outstanding performance possible. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and extend their best wishes to the Silver Spirit Marching Band of Silver Bluff High School in Aiken County on winning the Class 2AA State Marching Band Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Band Director, Mr. Chuck Deen and Principal, Mr. Gayle Gulick.
