A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING LONNIE B. NELSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO FOR BEING SELECTED A "BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL" BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Whereas, Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School of Richland County School District Two has received the highly prestigious "Blue Ribbon School" award from the United States Department of Education for the school year 1996-97; and

Whereas, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program gives national recognition to schools that are unusually effective in meeting local, state, and national goals and in educating all of their students; and

Whereas, Mrs. Charlene Herring served as principal of Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary and was the school's principal during the assessment and evaluation for the award, and, moving in August, 1998 to the district level, was succeeded as Principal by David B. Foster; and

Whereas, the faculty, staff, volunteers, parents, and students of Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School are greatly deserving of recognition for their dedication and accomplishments which made this award possible. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School of Richland County School District Two for being selected a "Blue Ribbon School" by the United States Department of Education.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School and to Mrs. Charlene Herring.
