TO HONOR AND EXTEND SINCERE BEST WISHES TO MR. WILLIAM SEABROOK, SR., ON THE OCCASION OF HIS NINTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY ON MARCH 31, 1999.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Mr. William Seabrook, Sr., will attain the age of ninety-five on March 31, 1999; and
Whereas, Mr. Seabrook, who is affectionately known by all as Mr. Cook, was born on March 31, 1904 on Edisto Island, South Carolina; and
Whereas, he is the eleventh child of the late Moses and Caroline Seabrook, and he attended the public schools of Charleston County on Edisto Island; and
Whereas, Mr. Cook married Janie L. Brown on December 29, 1937, and they have been a loving couple for sixty-two years; and
Whereas, their union has been blessed with ten children, one of whom is deceased, and thirty-one grandchildren, sixty-three great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, Mr. Cook worked hard and faithfully to support his family through the years; he was a farm worker on several farms, a logger, fisherman, fishnet maker, part-time navy yard worker, and a worker at the Charleston Lumber and Plywood Company from which he retired; and
Whereas, Mr. Cook has been a long-time faithful and loyal member of the Mount Horr A. M. E. Church; he served on various boards and committees and as Steward and Section of the church; in fact, Mr. Cook is the most senior male member of the church community; and
Whereas, the daily routine since retirement of this gentleman who is in the middle of his tenth decade of life is one that we would all do well to emulate - every day Mr. Cook rises early and helps with chores such as cooking, chopping, and bringing in the firewood; he feeds the pigs and prepares the fields for planting and harvesting of corn, and he prepares the ground for his own personal garden; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly greatly admire Mr. Cook for his work ethic, his humility, the wisdom he shares with all who make his acquaintance, and the example he sets with his life for all of us to follow; and
Whereas, besides his loving wife and his marvelous extended family, a host of other relatives and friends, and many other folk whom Mr. Cook has mentored and nurtured over the years will soon help him celebrate the joyous occasion of his ninety-fifth birthday on March thirty-first. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring,
