A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MS. NANCY ELIZABETH "LIBBY" BAKER OF THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ON BEING NAMED "1999 SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR".

Whereas, Ms. Nancy Elizabeth "Libby" Baker is a first grade teacher at Petersburg Elementary School in Pageland in the Chesterfield County School District; and

Whereas, she has been named "1999 South Carolina Teacher of the Year"; and

Whereas, she was selected as one of five finalists for this honor from among sixty-six school district nominees statewide during the last week in January, 1999, and traveled to Columbia during the first week of February to participate in personal interviews with the State Selection Committee which led to her selection as teacher of the year; and

Whereas, she now will represent 41,000 South Carolina teachers in the 1999 National Teacher of the Year Program; and

Whereas, the state title is a great honor for Libby Baker; it is a reflection of her ability to educate and to shape and form the lives of her young charges in a positive way; it is a reflection of her commitment to, and faith in, public education in the Palmetto State; it is a reflection of her hard work, dedication, vision, and leadership; but, also, it is a reflection upon the school district and the community where she teaches - of a people united, both in belief and in practice, in the goal of bringing up our children the right way - with solid education and lasting values; and

Whereas, we are delighted for Libby Baker, as well as for all the good people in the Chesterfield County School District; we are very pleased to have this opportunity to accord special recognition to Ms. Baker, as we wish her well in the 1999 National Teacher of the Year Program. Now, therefore,
