A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES OFFICERS, SERGEANT TIMOTHY BAXLEY AND CORPORAL DON "BUBBA" MORRIS, FOR THEIR QUICK ACTION IN RESCUING A SUMTER GIRL THROWN FROM A BOAT IN WYBOO CREEK IN THE CLARENDON COUNTY AREA OF LAKE MARION.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Department of Natural Resources Officers, Sergeant Timothy Baxley and Corporal Don "Bubba" Morris, while patrolling the waters of Lake Marion in Clarendon County witnessed a fourteen year old Sumter girl thrown from a bass boat traveling at high speed; and

Whereas, as Officer Morris maneuvered the DNR watercraft into position, Sergeant Baxley dove into the fifty-five degree water of Wyboo Creek to pull her to safety; and

Whereas, despite the potential for a disastrous outcome, the girl received only bruises and required no medical attention; and

Whereas, this instance of the quick thinking and selfless action of two dedicated law enforcement officers in effecting a rescue is a exemplar of the essential role of these DNR officers and all law enforcement officers who daily put their lives at risk to protect the lives and property of the people of this State; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might honor the efforts of these dedicated public servants. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly by this resolution express appreciation to Department of Natural Resources Officers, Sergeant Timothy Baxley and Corporal Don "Bubba" Morris, for their quick action in rescuing a Sumter girl thrown from a boat in Wyboo Creek in the Clarendon County area of Lake Marion.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sergeant Timothy Baxley and Corporal Don "Bubba" Morris, Dr. Paul Sandifer, Director of DNR, Colonel Alvin Wright, Director, DNR Law Enforcement, Captain Gregg Smith, District Commander and First Sergeant Harvin Brock, unit director of Clarendon County..
