A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MATT R. MAYER OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON BEING INDUCTED INTO THE RARE GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE ACHIEVED THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are delighted to learn that on Friday, May 7, 1999, Boy Scout Troop 312 will hold an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Irmo, South Carolina, and Matt R. Mayer of Lexington County will receive his Eagle Scout Award at this time; and

Whereas, this outstanding young man has achieved such lofty and notable awards during his scouting career that he will be remembered by all with whom his life has touched; and

Whereas, the Eagle Scout Award is such a rare award that only two of one hundred boys who enter scouting ever attain the rank of Eagle Scout; and

Whereas, for his Eagle Scout service project, Matt selected and mapped out a historic trail in downtown Columbia. He then coordinated the design of brochures and shoulder patches, commemorating the trail as a learning tool for young people in the future; and

Whereas, this seventeen-year-old junior at Lexington High School is a member of the Junior Air Force ROTC and hopes to attend the Air Force Academy; and

Whereas, Matt is interested in camping, backpacking, hiking, water and snow skiing; and

Whereas, he is a pole vaulter on the track team and plays bass in the string orchestra; and

Whereas, the example this young man has set in his troop and in his community is an inspiration to other young men who wish to aspire to the highest goal in scouting, the Eagle Scout Award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their congratulations to Matt R. Mayer of Lexington County on being inducted into the rare group of individuals who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Matt R. Mayer.
