TO CONGRATULATE THE NEWBERRY ACADEMY VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1998-99 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION CLASS AA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND RECORD OF TWENTY-NINE WINS AND FIVE LOSSES.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Newberry Academy varsity boys basketball team won the 1998-99 South Carolina Independent Schools' Association Class AA championship and finished the season with an overall record of twenty-nine wins and five losses; and
Whereas, the "Eagles" worked hard and were dedicated and committed to succeeding as a team and their record shows the tremendous success of this effort; and
Whereas, this fine group of young men is composed of Nate Beard, Josh Beck, Joey Desroches, Bobby Icard, Barry Kesler, J. D. Lake, Mark McEntire, Mayes McEntire, Scott Neel, Todd Rinehart, Jeremy Senn, Jimmie Lee Shaw, Chris Smith, and Jimmy Wiseman; and
Whereas, under the able leadership of head coach Scott Gardner and the very capable assistant coaches, Tom Perry and Bill Edenfield, the Newberry Academy Eagles compiled an outstanding record of achievement during the 1998-99 season which will be difficult for future teams to surpass; and
Whereas, the conduct of these players in the classroom and on and off the court this season has brought deserved credit not only upon them and their school but upon the City and County of Newberry and the State of South Carolina as well; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate the Newberry Academy Eagles varsity boys basketball team upon winning this truly deserved state championship. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Newberry Academy varsity boys basketball team for winning the 1998-99 South Carolina Independent Schools' Association Class AA basketball championship and commend them for their outstanding season and record of twenty-nine wins and five losses.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Scott Gardner and his assistant coaches, Robert E. Dawkins, Headmaster of Newberry Academy, and each of the members of the 1998-99 varsity boys basketball team.
