A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO HANNAH GROOMS OF MARLBORO COUNTY UPON BEING CROWNED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA TEEN USA 1999, AND WISHING HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN PURSUING HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are delighted to recognize Hannah Grooms of Marlboro County who is currently representing the State of South Carolina as our Miss South Carolina Teen USA 1999; and

Whereas, this outstanding and lovely young lady was born on April 15, 1981, and is the daughter of Jay and Kathy English of Wallace, South Carolina. Hannah has one brother, Tyler English, who is eight years old and in the third grade at Marlboro Academy; and

Whereas, Hannah is a senior attending Marlboro Academy and upon graduation will attend Winthrop University in the fall of 1999; and

Whereas, Hannah has been studying tap, jazz, clogging, and ballet for eleven years; and

Whereas, she won the Miss South Carolina Teen USA 1999 Pageant on November 7, 1998, in Charleston and will compete for Miss Teen USA in Shreveport, Louisiana, on August 24, 1999; and

Whereas, Hannah has received numerous awards and honors including: Senior Superlatives - Best Dressed and Most Attractive; Miss Marlboro Academy 1997; Who's Who Among American High School Students; ranked third in National Dance Caravan Competition; United States Achievement Academy of National Awards; Citizenship Award, Gifted and Talented Honors Program; and Clemson Extension Office Firemen's Award; and

Whereas, Hannah Grooms is recognized as a talented, well-respected, and dedicated student whose accomplishments and activities include: Honor Roll; Senior Class Student Council Representative; Varsity Cheerleader; Dancer with Crystal McInnis Senior Performing Group; Students Against Destructive Decisions; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Habitat for Humanity Volunteer; Special Olympics Volunteer; Homecoming Court; Newspaper Staff; Wyvern Yearbook Ad Seller; Assistant Photographer for Yearbook; and Children's Performing Arts Camp Counselor; and

Whereas, she has also been actively involved in numerous television and radio programs including: TBS Pageant Documentary; assisted WIS-TV Meteorologist with the Watermelon Festival; Christmas Festival Dance Preview - WBTW TV13; WBSC Radio Spokesperson for Half-time Show; and televised Spartanburg, South Carolina Christmas Parade; and

Whereas, we know that her father and mother are very, very proud of her, along with her brother, her friends, her classmates, her teachers, and, indeed, all South Carolinians, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to accord her the special recognition which she has so greatly merited. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Hannah Grooms of Marlboro County upon being crowned Miss South Carolina Teen USA 1999, and wish her continued success in pursuing her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Hannah Grooms.
