TO COMMEND BRUCE D. FOX FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES AS A DEPUTY SHERIFF WHILE EMPLOYED BY THE AIKEN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RECEIVING THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INDUSTRIAL SECURITY EXCELLENCE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AWARD.
Whereas, Deputy Bruce D. Fox has served the citizens of Aiken County for approximately five years in both a full-time as well as a volunteer reserve deputy. His dedication while a volunteer reserve deputy earned him the rank of First Sergeant and subsequent hiring as a full-time deputy; and
Whereas, during the summer of 1998, the Aiken County Detention Center experienced an escape. The escaped felon terrorized the citizens of Aiken County for several weeks while officers from several agencies searched diligently for him. While on the run, the escapee burglarized several homes and stole property. Fearful homeowners would call the sheriff's office for escorts back to their homes, if away for a period of time; and
Whereas, during the early morning of August 1, 1998, Deputy Fox had escorted a family back to their Beech Island home to ensure their safety. While checking the residence, which had previously been burglarized by the escapee, Deputy Fox located the suspect hiding under a table. Deputy Fox attempted to place the subject under arrest. Putting his own safety at risk to protect the homeowners, a physical confrontation ensued. Deputy Fox was injured during the struggle and required treatment at the Aiken Regional Medical Center. The escapee was taken into custody and is currently serving multiple life sentences for his rampage; and
Whereas, Deputy Fox's devotion to duty and selfless service reflects great credit upon himself, this agency, and Sheriff Howard L. Sellers. Now, therefore.
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Bruce D. Fox for outstanding performance of his duties as a deputy sheriff while employed by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, and to congratulate Bruce D. Fox on the occasion of his receiving the American Society of Industrial Security Excellence In Law Enforcement Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bruce D. Fox of Aiken.
