A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL "BRAVES" BASEBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 1999 CLASS AA STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud of the Cheraw High School "Braves" Baseball Team's overall season of 30-4 with a twenty-two game winning streak, culminating in the 1999 Class AA State Baseball Championship; and

Whereas, the Braves, after losing the first game in the district finals, made an amazing comeback through the losers bracket by winning four straight games on the road to advance to the state finals; and

Whereas, upon reacHing the finals, the Braves captured the championship by winning two straight games with the Brave's pitchers combining their talents for a no hitter, defeating Andrews High School 2-0 for a final victory, the school's first state baseball championship since 1970; and

Whereas, Coach David Byrd, along with pitching coach Tom Brewer and assistant coaches, Sandy McCormick, Rodney Byrd, Wayne Jordan, and Dennis McDaniel and assistant junior varsity coach, Buster Freeman, have brought great pride and recognition to Cheraw High School with this outstanding season and phenomenal championship; and

Whereas, the Cheraw Braves Baseball Team includes the following fine athletes and outstanding team players:

Seniors: Mark Allen, Andy Hall, Alex Newsom, Adam

Sellers

Juniors: Clay Barbour, Michael Chapman, Jason Grissom,

Joseph Hatchell, Dave Peninger, Will Rollins,

Jeremy Shuford

Sophomores: Jeremy Mabry, Luke Shoemake, Trevin

Singletary, Greg Sowell

Freshmen: Rodney Quick, Adam Lundy; and

Whereas, the team and coaching staff are to be commended for their dedication, commitment, countless hours of practice, hard work, and many sacrifices; and

Whereas, the students, parents, Principal, E. H. Shuford, Jr., and Athletic Director, Burney Bourne, of Cheraw High School have all provided the support and encouragement necessary to achieve this exceptional season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend congratulations to the Cheraw High School "Braves" Baseball Team for an outstanding season and on capturing the 1999 Class AA State Baseball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Cheraw "Braves" Baseball Team, Head Coach David Byrd, Assistant Coaches, Athletic Director, Burney Bourne, and Principal E. H. Shuford, Jr.
