A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL YELLOW JACKETS WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1999 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to have an opportunity to recognize the Irmo High School "Yellow Jackets" women's track team on their successful 1999 season and on being named the 1999 State Class AAAA Champions in Track and Field; and

Whereas, recognizing that running track and participating in field events requires both extraordinary individual and team efforts, it is important to acknowledge the many long, arduous hours of training that these team members put in for their team; and

Whereas, the team consists of the following members: Crystal Amedee, Zakiya Barnette, Tonia Barrett, Lindsay Chapman, Sarah Chewning, Curtrell Frye, Ashley Godwin, Janet Job, Mary Ellen Kustin, Alisa Long, Ashley Maybin, Amanda Mitchell, Candice Oglesby, Courtney Peters, Jeniece Reed, Jembber Robinson, Tenisha Waldo, April Wallace, Ashley Washington, and Kate Whipple; and

Whereas, Coach Mike Moore, the head Irmo coach for track and field, and his women's teams have a winning streak going for the last three years; they have won two state championships and one runner-up title in the last three years; and

Whereas, at the state championship meet held on May 15, 1999, Irmo came away with four individual championships in the following events: Trell Frye in the triple jump, the one hundred yard high hurdles, and the four hundred yard low hurdles; and Alisa Long in the high jump; other award winning performances came from Candice Oglesby, finishing third in the shot put, Alisa Long with a fifth in the triple jump, and Trell Frye with a fourth in the long jump; and

Whereas, while these girls deserve special mention, the team is full of young talent and should be a strong and tough competitor in the years to come; and

Whereas, the success of the 1999 Irmo High School women's track and field team brings great pride and recognition to the school, to Lexington County, and to the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and congratulate each member of the team and the coach upon the conclusion of their memorable season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring,

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their hearty congratulations to the Irmo High School "Yellow Jackets" women's track and field team on winning the 1999 State Class AAAA women's track and field championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Mike Moore, Athletic Director Bob Hanna, and to Principal Gerald Witt of Irmo High School.
