A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO AUTHORIZE THE SOUTH CAROLINA BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS TO GRANT LICENSURE TO AN APPLICANT NOTWITHSTANDING THE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 40-47-150 IF CERTAIN CRITERIA ARE MET.

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 40-47-150 or any other provision of law or regulation limiting the number of times a person may take an examination required by Section 40-47-150, the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners may grant licensure to an applicant if the applicant:

(1) has a sufficient score for licensure purposes from only one examination or part of one examination from a fifth attempt at the examination;

(2) possesses compelling qualifications for licensure that alleviate any concern of the Board of Medical Examiners over the applicant's test performance;

(3) is trained to practice as an obstetric and gynecological physician;

(4) has sufficiently demonstrated to the Board of Medical Examiners his or her interest and commitment to practice in an area with a demonstrable need for obstetrical and gynecological service;

(5) is otherwise qualified for licensure; and

(6) has applied for licensure in South Carolina between April 15, 1999 and April 30, 1999.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
