A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-111-80 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT NO STATE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION MAY CONSIDER THE ATHLETIC BACKGROUND, RECORD, OR ABILITY IN AWARDING AN ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP TO A CURRENT OR PROSPECTIVE STUDENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-111-80. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no state institution of higher education may consider the athletic background, record, or ability in awarding an athletic scholarship to a current or prospective student."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
