A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO APPROPRIATE TWO HUNDRED TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE STATE, REPRESENTING ONE DOLLAR FOR EACH SOUTH CAROLINIAN WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES DURING WORLD WAR II AS THIS STATE'S CONTRIBUTION TOWARD THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NATIONAL WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL ON THE MALL IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Whereas, some two hundred two thousand South Carolinians served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, many making the ultimate sacrifice and all, whatever their role, contributing toward the hard-won victory; and

Whereas, the National World War II Memorial, to be located on the Washington, D.C. Mall, at the east end of the reflecting pool between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, will be the first national memorial dedicated to all who served in World War II; and

Whereas, it is appropriate that this State make a contribution toward this great project on behalf of the South Carolinians who served in World War II so that future generations can see the tangible evidence of the nation's debt of honor to those who served. Now therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the general fund of the State the sum of two hundred two thousand dollars for a contribution toward the construction of the National World War II Memorial located in the Mall in Washington, D.C.. The sum appropriated equals one dollar for each South Carolinian who served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
