TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-112-85 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EVERY CHILD UNDER TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME A SCHOOL SEMESTER OR QUARTER BEGINS WHOSE PARENT IS EMPLOYED AS A FULL-TIME CERTIFIED TEACHER IN ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL IN THIS STATE SHALL RECEIVE A TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT DISCOUNT ON TUITION AND FEES AT ANY STATE-SUPPORTED INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-112-85. Every child under twenty-four years of age at the time a school semester or quarter begins whose parent is employed as a full-time certified teacher in any public school in this State shall receive a twenty-five percent discount on tuition and fees at any state-supported institution of higher learning. This discount shall be in addition to any other scholarships or financial aid the child receives from the State or other sources.
The Commission on Higher Education shall promulgate those regulations as are necessary to implement the provisions of this section."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
