TO AMEND CHAPTER 1, TITLE 2 OF THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE GENERAL PROVISIONS CONCERNING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, BY ADDING SECTION 2-1-235, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ALL MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY MUST SPEND ONE NON-LEGISLATIVE DAY VISITING THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THEIR DISTRICT DURING THE SCHOOLS' INSTRUCTIONAL TIME, AND TO PROVIDE A BEGINNING DATE FOR THIS REQUIREMENT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 2 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 2-1-235. Beginning with members of the General Assembly first elected in the 2000 general election, all members of the General Assembly must spend one non-legislative day visiting the public schools in their district during the schools' instructional time."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
