CHEERING THE BATESBURG-LEESVILLE FOOTBALL PANTHERS ON THEIR 1999 CLASS AA HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN, WON DURING THE WEEKEND OF CHAMPIONS ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1999, IN THE TITLE GAME AT WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM.
Whereas, the Batesburg-Leesville Football Team garnered its second Class AA high school state title in four years by defeating the Ninety-Six Wildcats by a score of 24-14 in the championship showdown December 4, 1999, in Williams-Brice Stadium; and
Whereas, the victory was all the sweeter having come after last year's crown slipped out of their reach in the final seventy-nine seconds of the 1998 match; and
Whereas, the Panthers finished their 14-1 season behind the successful guidance of Head Coach Phil Strickland and coaching staff Heyward Bouknight, Joe Barr, Courtney McInnis, Robb Streeter, and Shane Bryant; and
Whereas, the dedication and discipline of the Panther players inspired them to dig in to overcome an early Wildcat score, which topped off a seventy-five-yard, six-minute plus march by Ninety-Six in its first possession; and
Whereas, Batesburg-Leesville went on to score on a couple of short running bursts and again on a crowd pleasing fifty-nine yard jaunt; and the team capped its effort with a thirty-one-yard field goal; and
Whereas, the Panthers have done themselves, their school, their families and their community proud. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina hereby cheer the Batesburg-Leesville football Panthers on their Class AA High School State Championship crown, won during the Weekend of Champions on Saturday, December 14, 1999, in the title game at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Phil Strickland on behalf of Principal Pat Padgett and Batesburg-Leesville High School.
