A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-29-65 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH SCHOOL YEAR 2000-2001, ALL PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS SHALL INSTRUCT STUDENTS IN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IN THE MANNER THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SHALL PROVIDE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-29-65. Beginning with school year 2000-2001, all public high schools and middle schools shall instruct students in agricultural education as part of the regular curriculum including agricultural best practices, opportunities in the field, and its importance to South Carolina in the manner the State Department of Education in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture shall provide. The Department of Education and Department of Agriculture shall also assist schools with the development of appropriate printed materials and instructional aids for the instruction of agricultural education."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
