SALUTING JOHN THAMES, HEAD COACH OF THE LADY MONARCHS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM OF MANNING HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HIS BRILLIANT COACHING CAREER.
Whereas, John Thames, head coach of the Lady Monarchs girls basketball team of Manning High School, has a stellar record of 648 wins and 196 losses in thirty-three years as the Lady Monarchs coach; and
Whereas, he picked up his 648th victory on Saturday, March 11, 2000, when his Lady Monarchs won the 1999-2000 Class AAA girls state basketball crown by defeating Clover High School 49-45 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and
Whereas, Coach Thames thereby won his second state title in five trips to the championship game during his thirty-three years as Manning's head coach; and
Whereas, in Coach Thames's honor, the gymnasium at Manning High School has been named for him; and
Whereas, Coach Thames is considered a brilliant coach and constantly provides the perfect guidance and direction his teams need to achieve success on the basketball court; and
Whereas, we are indeed pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such an outstanding coach and fine gentleman. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes John Thames, head coach of the Lady Monarchs girls basketball team of Manning High School, for his brilliant coaching career.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Thames.
