CONGRATULATING THE EAGLES OF SCOTT'S BRANCH HIGH SCHOOL ON WINNING THE 1999-2000 CLASS A BOYS STATE BASKETBALL CROWN.
Whereas, the Eagles of Scott's Branch High School clinched the Class A boys state basketball title for 1999-2000 with a 66-59 victory over Great Falls High School on Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and
Whereas, the Eagles were coached by James Smith, who provided excellent guidance and direction for his scrappy team during the 1999-2000 campaign; and
Whereas, the Scott's Branch basketball roster for the 1999-2000 season included the following players: Joe Felder, Leon Bozier, Quentin Gaymon, Cedric Bozier, Antron Adams, Antoine Johnson, Joshua Roberts, Calbert McCray, Kendrick Dukes, Byron Boatwright, Cortney Junious, Rodney Ragin, Jermell Adams, Matthew Palmer, Kerry White, Travis Sinkler, Darron Phillips, and Neko Black; and
Whereas, in addition to Head Coach James Smith, the team's assistant coaches included Conley Brannon, Robert Ross, and William Bryant; and
Whereas, team statisticians were Sharice Nelson and Bradley Smith, and team managers included DeAndra Cantey and Lamont Junious; and
Whereas, school principal is Joe F. Singleton, assistant principal is Malachi Gibson, athletic director is Stanley A. Singleton, and district superintendent is Dr. Elijah S. McCants; and
Whereas, the district's school board members include the following: Mattie M. Dyson, chairperson; Patricia Pringle, vice chairperson, B. O. Butler, Sr.; Joseph Richburg, Sr.; Eleazer R. Carter; James Jones; and Loretta Pollard; and
Whereas, the Scott's Branch High School cheerleaders' roster included the following: Lakelia Tindal, Jacklyn Guess, Nichelle Bonaparte, Latoya White, Regina Maddox, Deidre Richburg, Shanika Huggins, Tanika Lemon, Stacey Coard, Sheneke Green, and Veronica Nelson; and the cheerleaders were coached by Lottie Fleming; and
Whereas, the Eagles of Scott's Branch demonstrated talent, determination, hard work, and unity over and over again throughout the season--qualities which propelled them to the state championship; and
Whereas, we are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a fine group of young men on this grand achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Eagles of Scott's Branch High School on winning the 1999-2000 Class A boys state basketball crown.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Scott's Branch boys basketball team and the team's head coach, James Smith.
