TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH WILLIAMS OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR THE WONDROUS AND JOYOUS EVENT OF CELEBRATING THEIR FIFTY-THIRD WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON APRIL 12, 2000.
Whereas, with great pride and admiration, the members of the General Assembly recognize the long and happy union of two very special people, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Williams of Richland County, who celebrate their fifty-third wedding anniversary on April 12, 2000; and
Whereas, they are the proud parents of seven children and the doting grandparents of sixteen grandchildren; and
Whereas, the Williams have worked tirelessly to educate their children and are proud that six of their seven children have college and post-graduate degrees, and all serve their communities in various professions; and
Whereas, their strong Christian values and high moral standards have always been wonderful examples to their children, grandchildren, and all their many friends and acquaintances over the years; and
Whereas, Mr. Williams has served for many years as an ordained elder and church official initially in the Progressive Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and later at the Emmanuel Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and traveled across the State preaching, ministering, and supporting the spiritual needs of many individuals, while Mrs. Williams, a licensed missionary, has remained steadfast at his side to encourage and assist his ministry; and
Whereas, Mr. Williams honorably served his country in the United States Navy for three and a half years as a Steward's Mate First Class, and thirty-eight years as building supervisor at W. A. Perry Middle School in Richland County School District One. Throughout his career, Mr. Williams was able to positively shape and mold the lives of all persons he encountered, and continues to enjoy their respect and admiration; and
Whereas, during her seven years of service in the Environmental Services Department at the C. M. Tucker Center, Mrs. Williams was known for her pleasing personality and uplifting spirit. Her soft, sweet smile brings cheer and hope and an assurance that she is a friend to all person she encounters, and Mrs. Williams continues to serve her community through volunteer service at the Harvest Hope Food Bank; and
Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Williams' devotion to one another over the past fifty-three years has exemplified the true spirit of marriage and family; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly recognizes this couple and the strength of their union as a true example of commitment, devotion, faith, and endurance. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate and recognize Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Williams of Richland County for the wondrous and joyous event of celebrating their fifty-third wedding anniversary on April 12, 2000.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Williams.
