A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING COACH EDWARD PELLMAN AND THE ORANGEBURG-WILKINSON HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL BRUINETTES ON THEIR THIRD GIRLS' CLASS 4-A STATE BASKETBALL CROWN, PROVING THEIR TEAM SLOGAN: "WHERE WINNING IS NOT A HABIT--IT'S A TRADITION".

Whereas, the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruinettes used speed, skill, and deft ball handling, and not a little drama and suspense, to leave an impressive list of foes in their wake on course to their eighth Class 4-A state basketball title appearance and a 57-45 win over Summerville; and

Whereas, that victory earned them, and Coach Edward Pellman, their third state crown, eighth Upper State title, and sixteenth winning season in as many years; and

Whereas, the basketball team's slogan is, deservedly and inarguably, "Where winning is not a habit--it's a tradition."; and

Whereas, the third state championship win represented the team's 540th victory in twenty-six seasons under just two coaches, Coach Pellman and Coach John Brunson; and

Whereas, Coach Pellman's success as the program's head has been noted by his selection as 1999-2000 State Girls' Coach of the Year by the "High School Sports Report" and Co-Coach of the Year by the "Orangeburg Times and Democrat"; and

Whereas, point guard Tasha Cook overcame a three-week layoff due to a broken foot to earn a medley of state, district, and regional honors, including statewide All-Star, Class 4-A Girls' Player of the Year, and winner of the Nick Gaffney Memorial Trophy from District 7 basketball officials, before recently penning an agreement to play for the University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks; and

Whereas, the Basketball Bruinettes are an inspiration to the young women and a valuable resource of Orangeburg County and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Coach Edward Pellman and the Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Basketball Bruinettes on their third Girls' Class 4-A State Basketball Crown, proving their team slogan: "Where winning is not a habit--it's a tradition".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Pellman on behalf of the team and Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School.
