A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL "EAGLES" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACHES FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 1999-2000 CLASS AAAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND WISH THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, mass euphoria broke out as the Greenwood High School "Eagles" Football Team won a convincing 35-0 victory over Aiken to claim the 1999-2000 Class AAAA State Football Championship at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. They had not won a state title since 1976; and

Whereas, the extraordinary "Eagles" finished their 1999-2000 season with an impressive 13-2 record overall; and

Whereas, this outstanding level of competition could not have been accomplished without the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Shell Dula and the support of his assistant coaches; and

Whereas, Coach Dula is only the second coach in South Carolina High School League history to win a state championship at three different schools. He won a Class AA state championship at Ninety-Six in 1982, and a pair at Union in 1990 and 1995; and

Whereas, the countless hours of practice, hard work, and sacrifices certainly reflect this superb football team's determination; and

Whereas, a special thanks is extended to the students, parents, faculty, and school administration of Greenwood High School for providing the encouragement and enthusiasm necessary for the "Eagles" to maintain this level of consistency throughout the entire season; and

Whereas, in recognition of the many hours of practice, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice reflected in achieving this victorious state championship, the members of the General Assembly wish to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding group of athletes, their coaches, and other school officials for this memorable season and state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Greenwood High School "Eagles" Football Team and coaches for an exceptional season and wish them continued success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Shell Dula.
