A HOUSE RESOLUTION

APPLAUDING NANCY THOMAS FIGGURES OF RICHLAND COUNTY UPON THE HARD-FOUGHT ACHIEVEMENT OF HER BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION FROM SOUTHERN WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, THIRTY YEARS AND SIX GRANDCHILDREN AFTER BEGINNING HER PURSUIT IN 1970.

Whereas, Nancy Thomas Figgures of Richland County began her college career at South Carolina State College in 1970; and

Whereas, she was sidetracked from that goal by marriage and, later, motherhood in 1971; and

Whereas, since that time she has worked full time with Bell South, serving as a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Local 3706 of the Communication Workers of America; and

Whereas, she has been an active member of Brookland Baptist Church; and

Whereas, she has raised three children, Ursula, 28 years, Glenn, Jr., 24 years, and Helena, 20 years; and

Whereas, she is the doting grandmother of six grandchildren; and

Whereas, Ms. Figgures kept a long-ago promise to herself when she went back to college in 1997 at the same time Helena began her college career; and

Whereas, she continued to work full time while completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Southern Wesleyan University; and

Whereas, she joins other proud graduates on May 6, 2000, in receiving her college diploma. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives applaud Nancy Thomas Figgures of Richland County upon the hard-fought achievement of her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University, thirty years and six grandchildren after beginning her pursuit in 1970.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Figgures.
