A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE NATIONWIDE INSURANCE COMPANY CIVIC ACTION PROGRAM, AND COMMENDING ITS PARTICIPANTS FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN INSURANCE MATTERS BEFORE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

Whereas, Nationwide Insurance Company has established the Civic Action Program (CAP) in each state in which Nationwide conducts business. CAP was founded in 1978 and is a nonpartisan organization comprised of people from all facets of the Nationwide community; and

Whereas, the employees, retirees, and agents of Nationwide have found a voice in CAP to express their concerns to their respective state legislatures on matters relating to insurance; and

Whereas, CAP activities are organized through state committees. Each committee elects its own officers and plans forums and other special events designed to foster the exchange of ideas between members and political officials; and

Whereas, CAP committees also sponsor trips to state capitols and issue workshops designed to educate members on legislative issues important to the insurance industry because knowledge is power in a democratic society; and

Whereas, the Nationwide CAP has over 12,500 members who participate in national mail and telephone campaigns when a legislative issue of concern arises. The strength of the CAP, along with Nationwide's well-respected government affairs unit, makes it possible for the collective voice of agents, employees, and retirees of Nationwide to be heard on important legislation that impacts Nationwide and its policyholders. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize the Nationwide Insurance Company Civic Action Program, and commend its participants for their involvement in insurance matters before the General Assembly.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Director of the Nationwide Insurance Company Civic Action Program.
