A HOUSE RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING SUSAN T. EADDY OF MANNING, CERTIFIED FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENTIST, FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS THE COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT FOR SUMTER COUNTY, AND FOR RELATED WORK WITH THE CLEMSON EXTENSION SERVICE OVER MANY YEARS, AND WISHING HER THE BEST OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Susan T. Eaddy is a Certified Family and Consumer Scientist who has served faithfully and admirably as the County Extension Agent since September of 1989 to the present, and is scheduled to retire in June of 2000; and

Whereas, beginning with her work as Assistant County Agent for Marion County from June of 1970 to December of 1972, her long and distinguished career includes service as Associate County Agent for Florence County - EFNEP Youth from December of 1972 to April of 1973, as Associate County Leader - Senior Agent for Clarendon County from April of 1973 to April of 1989. From April to September of 1989, she served as Assistant Director of the Robert M. Cooper 4-H Leadership Center, at which time she began her current work as County Extension Agent, Sumter County. From August of 1993 to September of 1994, she also served as Project Director - Extension Service/USDA Nutrition Education for Women Grant Project, and was promoted to Distinguished County Agent in 1999; and

Whereas, included among her many noteworthy accomplishments are: the 15-page basic food preservation booklet You Can Learn to Can and Freeze at Home; two videos produced with Sumter ETV that offer thirteen educational segments on food preservation; development and maintenance of Web pages for the Clemson Extension Service "Cluster" of Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter Counties; works with 19 trained Master Food Preservers and initiated the Master Food Preserver program in the "Cluster;" production of educational television programs on WRJA in Sumter, as segments for "Ag Today" with Rowland Alston, and WRJA's Journal 27; and she is currently developing sixteen "Mail Munchies" nutrition education home study lessons and videos for the Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education Program in South Carolina; and

Whereas, in 1990, Susan T. Eaddy was selected as one of two nationally trained Project Home Safe instructors for the State of South Carolina. She established the "Sew Easy Sew Fun" youth sewing program in Sumter County. Since the program's inception in 1990, six hundred youths from ages eight to sixteen have been taught basic sewing skills by over forty-six volunteers who plan, implement, and evaluate the program. Since 1989, she has built a highly successful and community-recognized parenting and family life educational program in Sumter County utilizing Clemson's Building Strong Families materials. She was one of the organizers of the Sumter County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Council and is a March of Community trained "Baby & You" instructor. She has also served on numerous county boards such as: Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes Pee Dee Division, Perinatal Board, March of Dimes Community Health Task Force, Shaw Air Force Base - Family Advocacy Outreach Team, and the Sumter School District 17 Parent Support Center Advisory Board. As liaison for the Sumter County Fair and Sumter's Clemson Extension Office she works closely with fair booth supervisors in the Family and Youth Exhibits; and

Whereas, she is a member of the National Association of Family and Consumer Science, the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Science, and Phi Upsilon Omicron, a professional Family and Consumer Science fraternity. In 1984, she was the first Buff Swicegood Travel Study Award Winner from the State Extension Homemakers Council. She also received the Clemson University Superior Performance Award in 1981 and 1987, the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Extension Family and Consumer Science in 1987, the Continued Excellence Award from the National Association of Extension Family and Consumer Science in 1996, the First Place National Radio Feature award from the National Association of Family and

Consumer Science in 1987, and in 1997 was recognized as an Outstanding Professional in Extension by the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Science. Except for 1990 when she did not enter the contest, Susan T. Eaddy has been the state TV Feature Winner for the South Carolina Association of Extension Family and Consumer Science every year from 1987 to 1999; and

Whereas, Susan T. Eaddy is a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Manning, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and current President of the Women of the Church. Susan is married to William 0. (Rusty) Eaddy, II, and they have two sons, Will and Cliff, both of whom are college students. She has been a hard-working, devoted, and loyal servant of the people of South Carolina and is greatly deserving of recognition and thanks. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend and thank Susan T. Eaddy, of Manning, a Certified Family and Consumer Scientist, for her many years of dedicated service as the county extension agent for Sumter County, and for related work with the Clemson Extension Service over many years, and wish her the best of health and happiness upon her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Susan T. Eaddy of Manning.
