TO EXPRESS THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF MICHAEL WESLEY BRUNSON, OF MANNING, AND TO EXTEND CONDOLENCES AND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE LATE MR. BRUNSON'S FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Michael Wesley Brunson, of Manning, died at age 45 on Friday, May 26, 2000, in Manning. Following funeral services in Manning, Mr. Brunson was buried in Brunson Cemetery in Sumter County; and
Whereas, Mr. Brunson was born in Manning on November 4, 1954, the son of James Wesley Brunson and the late Lois Loretta Hodge Brunson, and a 1973 graduate of Manning High School. He was a life-long resident of Manning and a loved and highly respected member of the Manning and Clarendon County communities who touched peoples lives by the personal example he set for honesty and integrity, through his church work, his personal devotion to his Lord, and as a family man, by his concern and care for his fellow man as expressed in his work and participation in sports programs for the youth of the Manning and Clarendon County communities, and in many other ways; and
Whereas, Mr. Brunson was an insurance agent for the Clarendon County Farm Bureau for the past nine years and was noted for being a great agent who always did a good job for his clients and at Farm Bureau where he was noted as being a productive agent. He is remembered by those with whom he worked as always doing a good job at whatever he did and for always helping those who asked him for help; and
Whereas, Mr. Brunson was a member and past president of Lions Club and past assistant recreational director for Clarendon County. As a Dixie Youth Baseball coach Mr. Brunson really enjoyed working with the kids on the baseball team. He played baseball for two years in college at North Greenville and loved the game. He recently built a batting cage in his yard and invited his team members there for practice, videotaping every one of his players batting so he could check their swing and make sure their eye was on the ball. Being the good man that he was, Mr. Brunson especially loved to teach what he knew, not only about baseball, but also about the principles of life. Mike Brunson was a towering influence for good to all who came within his sphere of influence; and
Whereas, Mr. Brunson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Alcolu for nine years, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and lay leader. He was a former member of Clarendon Baptist Church where he was baptized in his youth. He was actively involved in the Manning Men's Prayer Breakfast as well as a speaker and singer at various church events in the area; and
Whereas, Mr. Brunson was devoted to his wife Kathy Elizabeth Ridgeway Brunson, and was equally devoted to his son Wesley Ridgeway Brunson, age 11, and his daughter Kelsey Elizabeth Ridgeway Brunson, age 8, both of whom he loved dearly and was tremendously proud. He loved being with his family and working in his garden. He always had a good, positive attitude about things and was content in all things. Happy and possessing a good sense of humor no matter what the circumstances, his principle of life was God first, then family, and he always did his best for Kathy and the kids and loved them dearly; and
Whereas, survivors beside his wife, children, and father, all of Alcolu, include a stepmother, Anne Plowden Brunson of Alcolu, a brother, Mark Alan Brunson, of Alcolu, a sister, Sandra Brunson Edens of Dalzell, two stepbrothers, Church Wiley of West Virginia and Plowden Nelson of Pensacola, Florida, and two stepsisters, Vickie Lofton of Myrtle Beach and Lindy Neely of West Virginia. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express the sorrow of the members of the House of Representatives upon learning of the death of Michael Wesley Brunson, of Manning, and to extend condolences and deepest sympathy to the late Mr. Brunson's family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Kathy Elizabeth Ridgeway Brunson, of Alcolu.
