A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. JOHN L. SCOTT, SR. OF RICHLAND COUNTY, PRESIDENT OF J. L. SCOTT REALTY COMPANY, INC., ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY ON NOVEMBER 7, 2000, AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY IN RICHLAND COUNTY.

Whereas, Mr. John L. Scott, Sr. was born in Richland County on November 7, 1930; and

Whereas, he is the devoted husband of the former Gracie White, and together they are the proud parents of six children which includes our distinguished colleague, State Representative John L. Scott, Jr.; and

Whereas, for most of his adult life, Mr. Scott has been a successful businessman in Richland County who has operated a grocery store, automobile dealership, and is currently President of J. L. Scott Realty Company, Inc., a leader in the real estate industry in Richland County; and

Whereas, he is well-known for the pivotal role he played in the redevelopment of the Harlem Height Community in Richland County, which is now a part of the City of Columbia; and

Whereas, his hobbies include fishing and boating; and

Whereas, it is fitting that the members of the General Assembly pause in their deliberations to honor Mr. John L. Scott, Sr. on the occasion of his birthday and thank him for his service to the citizens of Richland County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. John L. Scott, Sr., of Richland County, President of J. L. Scott Realty Company, Inc., on the occasion of his seventieth birthday on November 7, 2000, and to recognize his invaluable contributions to the business community in Richland County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. John L. Scott, Sr.
