TO HONOR DR. KENNETH R. STEVENSON OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF EDUCATION FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN CHAIRING THE SELECTION COMMITTEE FOR THE ANNUAL CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO'S FINEST SCHOOLS AWARD.
Whereas, Carolina First Bank and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators cooperate annually to select and honor four of the state's most outstanding schools; and
Whereas, this year marks the twentieth anniversary of the award, and for most of its history, Dr. Kenneth R. Stevenson of the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Education has served as chairman of the selection committee; and
Whereas, his hard work in developing the selection process sets extremely high standards for schools competing for the award and has contributed greatly to the award's prestige; and
Whereas, these criteria include the completion of a seventeen-page document detailing the philosophy and practices the school uses to serve students, with verification visits to follow up and a second follow-up visit for a school selected as a finalist; and
Whereas, his endless hours of devotion to making this annual award the pinnacle of achievement for a South Carolina public school, performed in addition to his faculty duties at USC, establish Dr. Stevenson as an exemplar in the cause of superior public education; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might honor a man who has contributed such outstanding service in the cause of public education. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, honor Dr. Kenneth R. Stevenson of the University of South Carolina School of Education for his distinguished service in chairing the selection committee for the annual Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Schools Award.
