A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ROWLAND P. ALSTON, JR., OF SUMTER FOR MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO AGRICULTURE IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEING NAMED THE PROGRESSIVE FARMER MAGAZINE'S MAN OF THE YEAR IN SERVICE TO SOUTH CAROLINA AGRICULTURE FOR 1999.

Whereas, Rowland P. Alston, Jr., was educated in the public schools of South Carolina, graduating from Hillcrest High School in Dalzell and Clemson University with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Education and a M.S. Degree in Agronomy; and

Whereas, since graduating from Clemson, Rowland P. Alston, Jr., has served the good people of South Carolina as the assistant county agent for Clarendon County, as the area extension agent for field crops for Clarendon County, as the county extension chairman for Kershaw County, as the county extension director for Sumter, and as county extension agent, Clemson Extension Service, for Sumter. He also has served on the National Bank of South Carolina Advisory Board, the Black River Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, and the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also is a member of the Palmetto Rotary Club in Sumter and a Paul Harris Fellow; and

Whereas, Rowland P. Alston, Jr., is the recipient of the South Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award, Clemson's Distinguished Public Service Award, and the Cotton Extension Education Award. He is a past president of the South Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents and also has received the Outstanding Achievement Award in Agriculture from the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce; and

Whereas, in recognition of many years of service as a county agricultural extension agent, and his distinguished service as host of the "Making It Grow" television show that airs on all SCETV stations, the Progressive Farmer Magazine recently named Rowland P. Alston, Jr., as Man of the Year in Service to South Carolina Agriculture for 1999. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby commend Rowland P. Alston, Jr., of Sumter for many years of dedicated and distinguished service to agriculture in South Carolina and congratulate him on the occasion of his being named the Progressive Farmer Magazine's Man of the Year in Service to South Carolina Agriculture for 1999.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Rowland P. Alston, Jr., of Sumter.
