TO CONGRATULATE COLONEL GRANGE SIMONS COFFIN FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AND DEDICATION AND TO HONOR HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, Colonel Grange Simons Coffin served his country for 27 years in the United States Air Force including a tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam; and
Whereas, upon his return to South Carolina after a successful military career, Colonel Coffin devoted himself and his experience to education; and
Whereas, Colonel Coffin taught science and math to seventh through twelfth graders at Country Day School turning out a generation of students equipped to handle effectively what lay before them; and
Whereas, Colonel Coffin also served as the Headmaster at Country Day School providing guidance and leadership to the children entrusted to his care; and
Whereas, Colonel Coffin was elected Mayor of Meggett, South Carolina, earning a reputation for his service to his community and its citizens; and
Whereas, this commitment to service was recognized by the State of South Carolina when Colonel Coffin was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 1997; and
Whereas, on July 10, 1999, Colonel Coffin will celebrate his 70th birthday. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of South Carolina hereby congratulate and honor Colonel Grange Simons Coffin for a lifetime of dedicated service on behalf of his community, his state, and his nation, and extend to him best wishes on the occasion of his 70th birthday and for his continued success and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Colonel Coffin's family.
