TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DR. WALTER E. DAVIS, SR., ON THE OCCASION OF THE CELEBRATION OF HIS THIRTY YEARS OF CONTINUOUS AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE ANTIOCH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH IN GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Dr. Walter E. Davis, Sr., is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, and was educated in the public schools of his native city; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis graduated from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, with both Associate and Bachelor of Divinity degrees, doing so with great distinction as he achieved the rank of second in the Class of 1975; and
Whereas, Walter Davis received a Master's degree in 1992 from Emmanuel Bible College in Shelby, North Carolina; and
Whereas, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Selma University in Selma, Alabama, in 1991; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis was appointed by former Governor Richard W. Riley to be a member of the Joint Committee to Study the Problems of Alcohol and Drug Abuse; he served in this important position continuously for many years; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis has been married for thirty-six years to Lizzie Y. Davis and, together, they have two grown sons, Walter Davis, Jr., and Charles Davis; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis has faithfully served Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for the past thirty years; and
Whereas, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church will proudly celebrate its one hundredth anniversary of service, faith, and witnessing to the community in October, 1999; and
Whereas, the Senate of the State of South Carolina is pleased to respectfully add its voice to the many tributes of the five hundred member congregation of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church who will honor Dr. Walter E. Davis, Sr., at the thirtieth Pastoral Anniversary service on May 16, 1999. Now, therefore:
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of South Carolina:
That the members of the Senate recognize and congratulate Dr. Walter E. Davis, Sr., on thirty years of continuous and faithful service to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Greenville, South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Walter E. Davis, Sr.
